Ashdown Forest Poultry Club was started in 1978 by poultry fanciers in the area around Heathfield, as the first club in East Sussex to run shows and hold meetings on all matters related to keeping chickens and waterfowl.
We are affiliated to the National Poultry Club of Great Britain, and the shows are held under Poultry Club rules. Our constitution commits us to ‘promote interest in domestic poultry keeping, and to encourage the general good management and health of poultry. Also to promote shows in our area, and to put local fanciers in touch with one another.’
Ashdown Forest Poultry Club puts on 2 shows a year – a Spring Show in February or March which showcases the Egg classes and the Pekin Club show, and the Autumn Show in November which showcases the Sussex Breed Club show.
We have up to 6 Bi-monthly meetings a year, held in the Goward Hall in Cade Street near Heathfield, with a range of visiting speakers, plus the members’ egg competition. In July we usually have a club outing somewhere poultry themed – a member’s farm, or similar, with a picnic or BBQ.
