Autumn 40th Anniversary Show
Sunday 18th November, The Goward Hall, Cade Street TN21 9BU
Entries close Saturday 10th November.
Schedules are out now for the Autumn Voucher Show. Due to the latest Avian Flu/Newcastle disease scare, there is an extra form to fill in and bring to the shows. All birds will be inspected before they are allowed into the hall, for any signs of illness. This should not take long, and so far fanciers have been very patient about the short wait.
The rules about boxes are included – basically exhibitors must bring birds in boxes or crates with solid sides and floors, so that no shavings etc can fall out. The full Bio Security rules are included with each schedule. All these documents are available to download from the website. Fanciers are asked to keep them selves informed about the latest rules and situation, and to comply with any restrictions.
The Autumn Show is being generously sponsored by Farmgate – they have given cash vouchers for all the Section winners and Juveniles; and many other gifts.
We will be celebrating the club’s 40th Birthday with a special display about the history of the club, and a Birthday Cake !!
Due to the dates being so close together, the November Meeting will be a week later than usual – Tuesday 27th November at 8pm, our Xmas Jolly. Come and join us!

AFTER GETTING THE DVD SOONER THAN EXPECTED, WE WILL BE SHOWING THE NEW ZEALAND FILM OF ‘PECKING ORDER’ AT THE NOVEMBER BI-MONTHLY MEETING ON 21st NOVEMBER. THE FILM FOLLOWS SEVERAL LOCAL POULTRY CLUBS IN NORTH AND SOUTH ISLAND, IN THE MONTHS UP TO THEIR NATIONAL POULTRY SHOW. WE SEE HOW DIFFERENT FANCIERS KEEP AND BREED THEIR BIRDS, AND HOW THEIR NATIONAL SHOW PROCEDURES DIFFER FROM OURS. IT IS A FUNNY AND AFFECTIONATE PORTRAIT OF OUR FRIENDS THE OTHER SIDE OF THE WORLD. THE SHOWING WILL BE INSTEAD OF THE QUIZ PREVIOUSLY ADVERTISED. ALL WELCOME; BRING FRIENDS AND FAMILY. XMAS TREATS & RAFFLE AS USUAL.
THE NEXT EVENT IS THE NOVEMBER MEMBERS BI-MONTHLY MEETING. This is on TUESDAY 21ST NOVEMBER AT 8pm AT THE GOWARD HALL, CADE STREET TN21 9BU.
This will be the club’s last event this year, and traditionally we like to make it a festive occasion. Willie Edmonds has kindly offered to run a QUIZ on poultry and horticultural themes. Willie is a lifelong allotment man, with many prize-winning vegetables in the local village shows. He is also keen on flowers and fruit, and he oversees the kitchen garden in the National Trust property of Monks House.
Please make a big effort to come on the 21st and support your club, especially if you are an East Sussex member. The meetings have had many excellent speakers in the last 2 years, but it is disheartening for a speaker to drive some distance to find a small audience.
What with the shows being cancelled this year, if the meetings are not well supported, the club will be in real danger of folding.
WE LOOK FORWARD TO A FUN EVENING ON 21ST NOVEMBER, AND WISH ALL MEMBERS A HAPPY CHRISTMAS AND NEW YEAR 2018.
Seramas for Sale
Club member Peter Green is having to give up his much-loved Seramas, having lost the use of the field and shed where he keeps his birds. The birds are all young, hatched within the last 2 years. Peter has 3 boys and 7 girls to sell. Tel 01825 873226. (28 October 2017)
The Egg Show has been cancelled due to low entries.
The news was posted on the club Facebook page, and Members were notified by email, although not by letter. We send sincere apologies to any member who did not get notified after the closing date, and we hope nobody was inconvenienced. Sorry for any delay in sending out this news, but the editor has been away.
It was disappointing to have to cancel an event but there simply was not sufficient response, maybe the timing was wrong. NB. There will not be a Bi-monthly meeting in September as the Egg show was intended to be in lieu a meeting.

Update on Defra & avian flu restrictions 20th April 2017
Jed Dwight and Lee Grant have met with Defra officials but the ban on all bird gatherings – shows etc – remains in place. Despite the PCGB trustees stressing how this will impact on the county agricultural shows this summer, Defra says it is continuing to monitor and assess the situation regarding the threat posed by avian flu, and will not commit themselves to a date when the ban might be lifted. They did say that they do not have a plan to impose a blanket ban from 1st November this autumn, as rumours were saying. So, not all bad news then! We will keep you posted.
NEWS UPDATE. 19TH APRIL 2017
AVIAN FLU – We hope to be able to post some very good news about the Defra ban on bird gatherings any day now. Two members of Poultry Club of Great Britain committee are meeting with Defra officials tomorrow to discuss the situation and try to get the current ban lifted. Then hopefully we will see poultry back again in the agricultural and county shows this summer. Fingers crossed!

NEWS – 4th February 2017
As you may know, the Spring Show due to be held on Sunday 5th March has been cancelled due to the ban on all bird gatherings from Defra until 28th February. Thanks to several recent new outbreaks, the ban will probably be extended into March.
The committee feel unable to go ahead with so much uncertainty.
We are truly sorry to have to do this, along with all our neighbouring clubs.
We hope members and supporters will continue to keep their birds under cover and away from direct contact with any wild birds. Also we wish you well with your hatching for 2017 and look forward to seeing you when the shows resume.
